Housing
Grants
If your home needs repairs and you cannot afford the cost, then
you can apply for a grant from your local council. Most councils
have a grant waiting list with priority given to certain applicants.
You should therefore apply for a grant as soon as possible. Best
Value UK Ltd will fill in the forms (until you have seen one you
won’t know what bureaucracy means); survey your property; produce
a schedule of works; estimate the cost; calculate your contribution
(if any); appoint a builder; supervise the work and certify that

Buying
Land & Property - Valuations and Property Surveys
Your home and other property may be the most expensive item you
will ever buy.
We strongly recommend that you seek independent professional advice
from a Chartered Surveyor or other suitably insured, qualified and
experienced person before you start to negotiate. Do not rely on
your bank or building society for this service - they are mainly
concerned with two things:- "is the property worth more than you
want to borrow" and "can you afford to repay their mortgage". They
usually insist on their valuer valuing the property and more often
than not you have to pay for this. In our experience too many properties
purchased in this way have resulted in problems, stress or added
financial cost for the purchaser. In the alternative, acting independently
for the purchaser, we can provide a full survey, priced schedule
of defects, photographic record, log book and negotiation.
After you buy, there is little point going to see your lender
to complain about problems or defects in your property unless you
had instructed them to carry out a full survey on your behalf...
